If you have decided to buy a dog of this breed, first talk to people who already own Anatolian Shepherd dogs or visit a local dog show. Write to the AKC for the addresses of Anatolian Shepherd breed clubs. Read as much as is possible about the breed (temperament, health, grooming, breed standard). Price shouldn't be the main factor in choosing the breeder. Very often a high price doesn't guarantee high quality.

- Ask as many questions of you as you do of them.
- Plan to keep one of the puppies in order to continue improving the breed.
- Have interest in the breed for at least 2-3 years (Anatolian Shepherd dog club membership, Championship or performance titles).
- Advise you other breeders if they don't have a dog suitable for you.
- Write a contract when selling a dog.
- Provide a pedigree, a registration slip, and up-to-date health records with every puppy.
- Discuss honestly problems connected with the breed.
- Offer help and assistance for the life of the Anatolian.
- Breed 1-2 litters a year, not more.
- Have dogs, which are humanely cared for, clean, and happy.

- Breed simply to sell.
- Appear to get rid of a puppy.

- Have "mated pairs".
- Sell puppies to pet shops or to people they haven't met.
- Sell puppies that are younger than 7 weeks.
- Sell puppies without papers or charge extra for it.
- Claim that their Anatolian Shepherd dogs have no problems.
